Blythewood is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The 2000 census accounted for a population of 170 residents, however, the town has seen a continual increase in growth over the past few years. Blythewood covers a total area of 3.2 square miles and is part of the Columbia-South Carolina metropolitan area. The town's unemployment rate and house age are both significantly below the state average. Blythewood offers excellent schools and is in a convenient location only a short drive from Columbia. Cobblestone Park is one of Blythewood’s well-known private gated community located.

Blythewood is in a superb location with a variety of higher education institutes nearby. Columbia ia approximately 15 miles away and offers schools including Benedict College, and the University of South Carolina at Columbia. Benedict College is the fourth-largest private historically-black college in America. The college has various areas of study offering 30 majors as well and 28 different degrees. The University of South Carolina at Columbia provides over 350 degree-granting programs. The University is over 200 years old and enrolls over 19,000 full-time students.
Blythewood's grade school students are served by a number of high-performing schools in the Richland Schools District Two. Notable schools include Blythewood Middle School and Lake Carolina Elementary School. Blythewood Middle School is one of 124 schools across the nation to be named a national “School to Watch.” Lake Carolina Elementary is currently a National Blue Ribbon finalist. This school was also awarded the honor of being one of 2008's Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Schools. Other schools in Blythewood include Blythewood High School, Kelly Mill Middle School, Bethel-Hanberry Elementary and Round Top Elementary.
Blythewood Park Recreation Center is the town's main facility for sports and activities. The center offers grounds for basketball, tennis, baseball and volleyball. Other amenities include a weight room, a playground, picnic areas, a kitchen, a club room and an arts & crafts room. Cobblestone Park is a gated community which spans over 782 acres. Residents will find a clubhouse with tennis courts, a fitness center, basketball courts, an athletic field, a pool and a playground. Sesquicentennial State Park is a great place to take the family and spend the day. This 1,145-acre park offers boating, fishing and swimming on a 30-acre lake. The park has a playground, picnic areas, a dog park and various trails for visitors to enjoy. |
